Richard Wurmbrand

The pastor who became God's prisoner

Standing for truth in communist Romania

In war-torn Romania, there is only one way for churches to get the protection of the government: give their support and allegiance to the communists who are in control. Instead, Pastor Richard Wurmbrand chooses to speak up for Christ, thereby placing his own life and the lives of his family in great danger. When Richard’s choice lands him in a communist prison, his faith and witness are tested to the limits. See how this Torchlighter’s amazing story continues to impact the world today.

“Caught my Attention”

As my husband and I pray about the possibility of serving in a country where some persecution exists, this man’s faith in the face of extreme persecution is all the more precious to me. He said something that really caught my attention, “A faith that can be destroyed by suffering is not faith.“ Sabina’s testimony was also just compelling.

“Taught me to Forgive”

This has taught me how to love and forgive those who have wronged me. And if someone tells you not to witness to those around you, obey God despite this. I’ve told Mom that I’d rather have a jail cell for a room instead of the fanciest house in Naperville.
